XAU: false breakout or the pause that refreshes?

With the past week's mini-collapse of GLD and $XAU, the key question is whether the XAU will resume its cup-handle breakout.

Trust the NYT for political news, not financial.

The New York Times highlighted the emerging markets in an article entitled "The Fever for Exotic Stocks" and mentioned anecdotal interest by investors who are drawn to speculate in various "exotic" instruments like Zambian treasury bills. To dramatize the outperformance of the exotic emerging markets, the article stressed the above chart of the multiyear performance of the MSCI Emerging Markets Index. Problem: the dominant index components of the this index and its ETF (EEM) are in Taiwan, Korea and other old emerging market countries, not the "new" areas of interest like India, Russia, China, Brazil, etc.
